SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman's Andrew Mellow has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches February 27 through March 4. Mellow defeated Georgia's Wil Spencer, ranked No. 3 in the nation last week.
Mellow was the only Paladin to earn a win over the fourth-ranked Bulldogs as UGA earned a 6-1 win in the match. Competing at the top singles position, Mellow came away with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) decision. Earlier in the match, Mellow and teammate Jacob Behal fell to Nathan pasha and Ignacio Taboada 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.
With last week's win over Spencer, Mellow has now won his last three matches, all at No. 1 singles.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel's Elliott Spear, Elon's Stefan Fortmann, Georgia Southern's Albert Codina Sala, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, and Chattanooga's Jackson Tresnan.
