SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Lakyn Shull has been named the Southern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Western Carolina’s Erin Foster was selected as the Player of the Week. The selections are made by the league office.
Shull, a freshman, compiled 20.1 innings of work in the circle last week, posting a 3-1 record and 0.34 ERA. The right-hander tossed a complete game, six-hit shutout in a 1-0 win over Alabama State. In Furman’s 7-3 victory over Rhode Island, the rookie tossed four innings in relief, giving up three hits.
On Sunday, she struck out the side in an inning of work against Georgia State. She returned to the circle in the next game limiting Jacksonville State to one unearned run in 3.1 innings of relief.
Shull only gave up one earned run all week.
Foster, a senior outfielder, hit .500 in five games for the Catamounts at the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic. She finished with nine hits, a double, a triple and a home run. She also plated six runs.
The Salisbury, N.C., native’s walk-off single RBI scored the winning run for Western Carolina in the eighth inning, for a 7-6 win over Jacksonville State.
Foster hit her fourth home run of the season against Rhode Island.
