CofC Sweeps UNCA Friday Afternoon

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 rout of UNC Asheville in a non-conference dual match held Friday afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

It took the Cougars (10-3) less than three hours and 20 minutes to extend their win streak to three consecutive matches and hand the Bulldogs (9-7) their first loss in four matches.

Senior Mickael Trintignac and junior Kyle Parker led the way for the Cougars by clinching the doubles point with an 8-6 victory over UNC Asheville's Jonas Brobeck and Matt Waissen at the top of the order.

Junior Stephen Hardy and junior Billy Kenny were also winners with an 8-2 tally over Pete Conaty and John Schubel at No. 3.

CofC would carry that momentum into singles where they won five of the first six sets. Hardy and sophomore Crescente Lesser quickly turned in straight-set victories at the No. 5 and No. 4 lines to put the Cougars up 3-0.

Trintignac later clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over UNC Asheville's top player Adrien Langeard. He improved to 9-4 on the season in dual match play at No. 1 singles, while Lesser boasts a team-best 10-2 singles mark.

The Cougars completed the singles sweep with senior Tom Delme and freshman Alon Faiman winning in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 6 and Parker battling from a first-set deficit to force his match into a third-set super tiebreaker which he won 10-8 at No. 3.

"I was really impressed with the match today," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "For us to come out today and remain focused and compete hard - you could see the result of us showing up at each line. Our teamwork was great and everyone kept the momentum going throughout the match against a really good UNC Asheville squad."

CofC, who remains the last undefeated team in the Southern Conference at 4-0, will travel to UNCG (7-9, 4-2 SoCon) on Sunday, April 1 at noon (ET) in Greensboro, N.C.

"Greensboro will be a tough match," Bruner said. "They have played UNC Asheville and a bunch of other teams really close this year. They will be ready for us. We have not played there in three years which will make it a hard venue to walk into on Sunday."
