SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Midway through the Southern Conference outdoor track and field season, Appalachian State leads in the league’s men’s and women’s power rankings. The rankings are determined by the top eight times or scores that are reported by the schools for each event that will be conducted at the conference championship.
The ASU men have 252 points and are followed by The Citadel with 139 points. Samford sits in third place with 138 points.
In women’s competition, the Mountaineers have 168 points with Samford in second place (163). Western Carolina rounds out the top three with 157 points.
Appalachian State claimed the men’s and women’s titles last year the conference championship. The Mountaineer men have won eight titles since 2001 and 18 overall, while the women have won a total of 16 championships. ASU has won the most titles in SoCon history.
The 2012 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held April 21-22 in Cullowhee, N.C.
