SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG junior Niltooli Wilkins has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 19-25 the conference announced today (March 27). Wilkins was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles play during league competition last week as the Spartans defeated Davidson (6-1) and Georgia Southern (5-2). The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.
The junior improved her record to 12-1 (4-0 SoCon) at No. 1 singles this season with two straight sets wins last week. Wilkins cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Davidson's Stephanie Synn and claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern's Paola Garrido.
Wilkins and teammate Lucy Dougherty are ranked No. 66 in the nation in doubles play. UNCG's top tandem improved to 9-3 on the year with wins over Davidson's Synn and Nisha Crouser (8-3) and Georgia Southern's Garrido and Caitlin Kitchen (8-1).
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, College of Charleston's Kelly Kambourelis, Elon's Jordan Johnston, Furman's Margaret Boyette, Georgia Southern's Alessandra Dzuba, Samford's Lindsey Mallory, Chattanooga's Emily Hangstefer and Western Carolina's Karen Jimenez.
