SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston’s Stephanie Saylors has been named the Southern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Chattanooga’s Michelle Fuzzard has been tabbed the Player of the Week. The selections are made by the league office.
Saylors, who picks up her second weekly honor this season, went 3-0 in the circle over the weekend tossing three complete-game shutouts. The junior from Easley, S.C., did not allow a run and posted an unblemished 0.00 ERA. She struck out 17 batters and allowed only three walks on 12 hits.
The right hander is second in the league in ERA (1.64) and strikeouts (98).
Fuzzard, who earns her third honor this season, set a Chattanooga single-game record with nine RBI in the Lady Mocs’ lone game against Appalachian State. She needs just three RBI to set the SoCon All-Time RBI record.
The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., went 3-for-3 at the plate against the Mountaineers, and hit two home runs, a double and earned a walk.
She leads the conference in on base percentage (.545) and RBI (37).
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Allie Cashion, College of Charleston’s Amanda Longergan, Elon’s Carleigh Nester, UNCG’s Katelyn Bedwell, Georgia Southern’s Marie Fogle and Western Carolina’s Erin Foster.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Furman’s Hannah Bradley, UNCG’s Cory Mattson, Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis, and Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason.
