Wofford's Hendricks Tied For Low Country Intercollegiate Lead after 18 Holes
HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Wofford women's golf team is in ninth place after one round of the Low Country Intercollegiate at the par-72, 5,853 yard Moss Creek South Course with a 325.
App State leads the event with a 313, and Jacksonville is second with a 314. Radford, Newberry and Presbyterian are tied for third with a 316.
Three individuals sit tied for the tournament lead with an 18-hole score of 74 - Maria Luz Besio of Newberry, Wonji Choi of Princeton and Alex Hendricks of Wofford. Kelly show from Princeton is fourth with a 75, while Natalie Schmett of Jacksonville and Country Finocchiaro from Gardner-Webb are tied for with after rounds of 76.
Trailing Hendricks for the Terriers is Elizabeth Thompson with an 81, and Anne Marie Covar with an 84. Lauren Dunbar carded an 86, while Shelby Winters entered the clubhouse with an 88.
The tournament's final 18-holes will be played Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.
Ingram Paces Phoenix on Day One of Low Country Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Three Elon golfers sit among the top 15 after the first round of play at the Low Country Intercollegiate women's tournament. Led by Kristi Ingram, the Phoenix sits sixth with a mark of 318 following one round.
Ingram shot a 77 over her first 18 holes to sit in a tie for seventh out of the 75 golfers in the tournament. She is just three strokes back of the lead shared by Newberry's Mariz Luz Besio, Princeton's Wonji Choi and Wofford's Alex Hendricks.
Two Phoenix golfers are tied for 14th with a score of 79 - Virginia Mayer and Lauren Lebak.
Diana Davis shot an 83 during her first round and is tied for 45th while Martyna Mierzwa's 85 has her tied for 55th with one round to play.
Appalachian State sits atop the 15-team field after firing a 313 on Sunday. The Mountaineers hold a one-stroke lead on Jacksonville and a three-stroke advantage over the trio of Radford, Newberry and Presbyterian.
Other SoCon teams in the field include host Wofford (9th; 325) and The Citadel (14th; 340).
Pellegrini Fires 82 in First Round of Low Country Intercollegiate
Hilton Head, S.C. - Behind an opening round 82 by sophomore Erica Pellegrini, The Citadel golf team wrapped up Sunday's opening round of the Low Country Intercollegiate in 14th place with a combined team score of 340.
Pellegrini (+10) is locked in a six-way tie for 39th, after firing a pair of 41s at the par-72, 5,853-yard South Course at Moss Creek Golf Club.
Meanwhile, Cadets Alanna-Jean Keith (84, +12) and TaKima Butler (86, +14), placed themselves in 51st and 58th, respectively.
Rounding out team scores for the Bulldogs were Bree Baumgartner (88, +16) and Kellie Anderson (88, +16), making way for a seven-way logjam in 62nd place.
Southern Conference rival Appalachian State fired a 313 (+25) to hold a one-shot lead over Jacksonville State (314, +26). Also within striking distance are Radford, Newberry and Presbyterian College, who shot a 316 (+28) and enter Monday's action in a tie for third.
The top of the individual leaderboard is shared by the trio of Maria Luz Besio (Newberry), Wonji Choi (Princeton) and Alex Hendricks (Wofford), who each fired a 74 (+2).
