SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson junior Andrew Lantz and Appalachian State senior Darius Purcell have been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Lantz captured a pair of second-place finishes at the 49er Classic over the weekend. On Friday night, the Houston native ran a personal best time of 3:52.12 in the 1500m. He was just six-hundredths of a second behind the leader. He turned in another personal best in the 800m on Saturday with a time of 1:51.75, again finishing six-hundredths of a second behind the winner.
Purcell finished second in the high jump at the Wake Forest Open with a mark of 7’ 3.25”. After his performance last weekend, Purcell, who set a new conference record at the Indoor Championship last month, broke the ASU school record and is ranked first in the East Region and in the SoCon.
