SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Alex Whitehead has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
The Victoria, Australia native went 3-1 last week as UNCG opened conference play with road wins over Samford and Chattanooga.
In a No.2 doubles victory over Samford, Whitehead teamed up with sophomore Devon Sutherland, but Whitehead dropped a close match at No.3 singles, 6-4, 6-4.
On Sunday, the junior won both of her singles and doubles matches, again teamed up with Sutherland.
Whitehead maintains a 4.00 GPA in media studies.
Also nominated this week were Appalachian State runner Sarah Williamson and Furman women’s tennis player Lauren Kline.
