Samford's Dunkle Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Zac Dunkle has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 12-18.  Dunkle was 3-1 in singles and doubles play last week as the Bulldogs improved to 10-2 (4-0 SoCon) on the season with wins over Furman (5-2) and Georgia Southern (6-1).  It is the second time this season Dunkle has been tabbed the Player of the Week.

The Atlanta, Ga., native topped a ranked opponent for the first time this season when he beat No. 110 Andrew Mellow of Furman, 6-3, 7-5 at the top singles position last Friday.  Dunkle followed up that performance with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern's Alain Garrido.

The team of Dunkle and Alexander Sajonz split their two matches at the top doubles position for the Bulldogs last week.  Dunkle and Sajonz beat Alex Christ and Joel Cook of Furman (8-4), but fell to GSU's Garrido and Andrew Dromsky (8-6).

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Alex Markov, College of Charleston's Kyle Parker, The Citadel's David Orces, Georgia Southern's Andrew Dromsky, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, and Chattanooga's Manuel Barroetavena.
