Chattanooga 6, Georgia Southern 1

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.
--- The Chattanooga Mocs moved to 10-3 on the season, 2-1 in Southern Conference play, with a 6-1 win over visiting Georgia Southern (1-13, 0-3 SoCon) Thursday afternoon on the UTC Courts. Junior Manuel Barroetavena clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over Albert Codina Sala.

The Mocs received singles wins at one, two, three, five and six. Chris Smith and Pavels Grigorjevs each won in straight sets at two and five. Smith won 6-0, 7-5 over Kyle Hoffman to claim the first singles point, while Grigorjevs captured a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5 over Marco Osorio to make it 3-0.

Stephen Crofford made it 5-0 UTC with a three-set win at No. 6 over Daniel Rush. He lost the first set quickly, 6-1, but blitzed his opponent three and two almost clinching the match for Chattanooga.

The Eagles got on the board with a three-set win at four singles. Andrew Dromsky beat Jackson Tresnan in a hard-fought match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Ankit Chopra closed out with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 over Alain Garrido.

The Mocs won the doubles point in exciting fashion. After easy wins for both teams at one and three, it came down to the match at No. 2. The UTC pairing of Crofford and Sam Parfitt held a 5-3 lead over Osorio and Rush as the Eagles evened the doubles slate at a win apiece.

Osorio and Rush broke UTC to get back on serve down 5-4 with momentum swinging mightily in GSU's favor. The Mocs duo, playing their first match together this season, answered winning the next three games. That included two breaks including match point to make it 1-0 UTC heading into singles.


College of Charleston 6, Wofford 1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Despite earning the early advantage by earning the doubles point, the Wofford men's tennis team fell to College of Charleston by a 6-1 score Thursday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center.

Wofford falls to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play, while the Cougars improve to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in league action.

The Terriers took the early advantage as Jackson Keith and Walker Heffron downed Crescente Lesser and Brice Allanic (8-5) at the No. 3 position, and the pairing of Tinus Van Wyk and Rob Galloway defeated Mickael Trintignac (8-6) at the No. 1 spot to claim the doubles point, giving Wofford the 1-0 advantage headed into singles play.

College of Charleston took control of the match in singles, sweeping each contest to claim the overall victory.  At the No. 4 position, Rob Galloway claimed the first set against Crescente Lesser, 7-5, yet Lesser took the remaining sets, 6-0, 6-4, for the win.  At the No. 1 position, Tinus Van Wyk took the opening set against Mickael Trintignac, 6-4, yet Trintignac took the second set, 7-5, and also claimed the third-set tiebreak, 10-8.
