SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon senior Amy Salek and Appalachian State junior Gayshawna Watkins have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Salek claimed two titles for the Phoenix at the Coastal Carolina Invitational over the weekend. She ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:50.49. She also won the 400-meter dash by posting a time of 55.71.
The Wycoff, N.J., native also came in third in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 24.77.
Watkins won the shot put event at the Coastal Carolina Invitational with a mark of 46’4”. The Forest City, N.C., native won the shot put title at the SoCon Indoor Championship last month with a mark of 56’1”.
The Mountaineers will compete at the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend. Elon will not be back in action until March 30 when the Phoenix compete at the Raleigh Relays.
