Mocs Tie for Seventh at JMU Eagle Landing Invitational
Mette Kryger shot her first under par round as a collegian with 71 (-1)
ORANGE PARK, Fla. --- Freshman Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) shot one-under par 71 to lead the Chattanooga Mocs in the final round of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational. UTC shot 302 Sunday to finish with a 54-hole total of 909 tying for seventh with UNCG and Stetson.
Kryger not only had the best score but also the shot of the day. Standing in a fairway bunker on the ninth hole, wind in her face, she holed out with a five iron from 145 yards out. Kryger was two over through eight holes, but played the final 10 at minus three to end up at one under.
Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) shot 76 (+4) in the final round to shoot 220 (+4) tying for 10th for her second career top 10 finish. Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was second for the event on the Mocs squad at 226, tied for 26th.
Kryger's 71 moved her into a tie for 34th at 228. Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) was next for UTC at 239. Sophie Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) rounded out the team at 245.
USF claimed a wire-to-wire win shooting 883. The Bulls topped Maryland by three and East Carolina in third by seven. Campbell's Kaylin Yost was also a wire-to-wire winner as medalist at one-under par 215. A trio of golfers finished as runner-up at level par 216.
The Mocs stay in Florida this week for the SunTrust Gator Women's Golf Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event starts Friday, March 16 and ends Sunday, March 18. Live scoring can be found on the GoMocs.com women's golf schedule page.

UNCG Women's golf finishes seventh at JMU Invitational
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -UNCG women's golf team couldn't move up in the standings on the final day of the JMU Invitational, settling for a tie for seventh on Sunday at Eagle Landing Golf Course.
The Spartans shot 310 on Sunday and finished tournament play at 909 (304-295-310). UNCG tied with Chattanooga and Stetson. South Florida won the team championship by shooting 883.
Fanny Cnops led the way for the Spartans, shooting 75 on Sunday to finish seventh overall at 218 (74-69-75). Campbell's Kaylin Yost (-1) took top individual honors.
Ana Lucia Martinez finished tied for 18th at 224 after shooting 76 on Sunday, while Courtney Taylor tied for 40th at 230.
Berglind Bjornsdottir and Begona Sarabia both tied for 77th at 240. Bjornsdottir shot 80 on Sunday while Sarabia finished tournament play with a 79.
Kelly Berry played as an individual for UNCG and shot 79 on Sunday to finish 100th at 255.

SAMFORD WOMEN'S GOLF: HEIM FINISHES EIGHTH, BULLDOGS' 11TH AT JMU INVITATIONAL
--- Samford closes out the 54-hole tournament Sunday with a third-round score of 303 ---
ORANGE PARK, Fla. --- Samford women's golfer Anna Heim turned in her best performance of the 2011-12 season over the weekend as she earned an eighth-place finish Sunday at the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational hosted by James Madison University at the Eagle Landing Country Club.
Heim, the Bulldogs' talented junior from Lafayette, La., carded a season-best 54-hole mark of 219 (75-70-74) at the talent-laden tournament. She topped her previous low score of 2011-12 by 12 strokes and finished the three-round event tied for eighth place.
"Anna Heim did an outstanding job this weekend," said Samford head coach Ryan Mayberry. "She turned in a great tournament, especially considering the high level of competition that was here. There were a number of ranked teams and a number of ranked players, so I was really pleased with Anna's performance. Right now, we just need to improve as a team and get ready for Pinehurst next week."
Samford completed the 2012 JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational with a total team score of 916 (310-303-303). The Bulldogs overcame a lackluster opening round of play to finish the tournament in 11th place. Samford carded an identical score of 303 on each of the final two rounds at the Eagle Landing Country Club.
The three-day, 54-hole competition consisted of 18 teams. The field for the 2012 JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational was comprised of the following squads: Samford, Campbell, Chattanooga, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Elon, Illinois, Illinois State, Jacksonville, James Madison, Maryland, Morehead State, UNCG, Old Dominion, Radford, USF, Stetson and Western Carolina.
Illinois entered the tournament as the 50th-ranked team in the nation and concluded Sunday's final round of play in fifth place (302-294-304=900).
South Florida earned the team title with a 54-hole score of 883 (287-297-299), while Maryland (295-290-301=886) and East Carolina (294-302-294) placed second and third, respectively. Campbell tallied a fourth-place finish Sunday with a total team score of 893 (294-304-295).
Samford concluded the JMU/Eagle Landing Invitational only seven strokes out of seventh place. Southern Conference rivals UNCG and Chattanooga, as well as Stetson all finished tied for seventh place with identical three-round marks of 909.
Following Heim's team-best score of 219, the Bulldogs' Emily Stallings followed with a 230 (78-76-76), while senior Sarah Butts posted a 233 (79-78-76) and junior Kayla Turner registered a 235 (78-79-78). Rounding out Samford's scoring was sophomore Natalie Mitchell with a 54-hole total of 239 (83-79-77).
The Samford University women's golf team will next be in action March 19-20, as the Bulldogs head to North Carolina for the 2012 Cougar Intercollegiate being held at Pinehurst No. 6 Golf Course in Pinehurst, N.C.
Freshman Dunbar Leads Terriers at the Spider Spring Break Invitational
SOUTHPORT, N.C. - The Wofford women's golf team opened with a seventh place finish in its first tournament of the spring with a three-round score of 995 at the par-72, 6,166 yard The Reserve at St. James Plantation in the Spider Spring Break Invitational.
The Terriers opened with rounds one and two on Saturday with scores of 350 and 315 before finishing the tournament with a 330 for the 995. Boston College won the event with a 963 after rounds of 312, 328 and 323.
Lauren Dunbar led the Terriers with an 89-75-80 for a 244 and in 12th, while Anne Marie Covar followed with an 85-80-8200247 for a tie for 19th. Alex Hendricks just missed the top 25 with a 26th place finish after carding an 87-76-86-249, and Sarah Hurt finished with an 89-86-82-257. Elizabeth Thompson rounded out the Terrier golfers with a 94-84-86-264.
Boston College's Katia Joo was the individual winner with a 76-78-76-230.
Wofford will return to the links with the Bucknell Invitational on March 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Phoenix Places 10th at JMU Eagle Landing Invite
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Battling against 10 of the nation's top 100 teams, the Elon Phoenix women's golf team concluded the JMU Eagle Landing Invite in 10th place with a three-round score of 915 (302-308-305).
The Phoenix was led by Diana Davis who placed in a tie for 21st out of 101 players with a tournament total of 225 (75-74-76). Just two strokes back in a tie for 27th was Lauren Lebak who ended her final round with a three-day mark of 227 (75-76-76).
Martyna Mierzwa's 235 (74-84-77) placed her in a 59th-place tie while Virginia Mayer found herself in a tie for 69th with a 238 (84-78-76).
Finally, with a score of 243 (78-80-85), Kristi Ingram placed 88th.
Campbell's Kaylin Yost (67-74-74--215) led from start to finish to take home individual medalist honors.
Like Yost, No. 59 South Florida led from wire-to-wire to claim the team crown. The Bulls shot an 883 (287-297-299) to edge out No. 57 Maryland (295-290-301--886) by three strokes.
The rest of the top five consisted of No. 50 East Carolina (294-302-294--890), No. 58 Campbell (294-304-295--893) and No. 51 Illinois (302-294-304--900).
Five other top-100 programs were in the 18-team field. They included No. 63 East Tennessee State (6th; 304-299-300--903), No. 75 UNCG (T7th; 304-295-310--909), No. 74 Chattanooga (T7th; 303-304-302--909), No. 97 Samford (11th; 310-303-303-916) and No. 93 James Madison (12th; 305-307-308--920).
Beginning March 19, Elon will be back on the course as a participant in the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, N.C.
Butler Fires Final Round 87 as Bulldogs Complete Spider Invitational
Southport, N.C. - The Citadel golf team fired a final round 360 on Sunday afternoon to place 12th at the Spider Invitational held at the St. James Plantation. The Bulldogs were paced by the tandem of Alanna-Jean Keith (261, +45) and Erica Pellegrini (263, +47), who placed among the top 50 individuals in the tournament.
Keith followed scores of 88 and 83 with a final round 90 to put herself in a three-way tie for 43rd, alongside Winthrop's Katie Bolline and Allison Lee. Meanwhile, Pellegrini wrapped up the tournament with rounds of 88, 84 and 91, tying USC Upstate's Amanda Hall and Brittany Lowe for 47th.
The Citadel's freshmen trio of Devin Lowe (278, +62), TaKima Butler (283, +67) and Kellie Anderson (293, +77) rounded out the remaining individuals.
While Lowe took away a 58th place showing, it was Butler's final round 87 that brought home lowest score for the Dogs, moving her to 61st. Anderson capped off a three-day showing with a 97, putting her in 62nd.
Intracity foe Charleston Southern made a final round surge, carding a 317 at the Reserve Course, to tie Boston College (963, +99) for top team in the tournament. Meanwhile, UNC Pembroke (977, +113) finished third.
Top individual honors went to Boston College's Katia Joo (230, +14), who wrapped up the tournament with a final round 76. Winthrop's Jennifer Dilger (234, +18) finished in second, while host Richmond's Lauren Conder tied Charleston Southern's Amanda D'Ostroph with a score of 237 (+21) to round out the top three.
The Citadel returns to action in two weeks, at the Low Country Intercollegiate, when the team heads to Hilton Head on March 25-26.
CofC Women's Golf Finishes 13th at LSU Golf Classic
BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Anna Martin led the College of Charleston women's golf team on the final day of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, as the Cougars finished 13th Sunday.
Junior Vanessa Koechli led the Cougars for the tournament as she shots rounds of 75-74-77=226 (+10) and finished tied for 16th overall.
The Cougars shot rounds of 322-307-313=942 for the tournament, which was won by Tennessee, who shot 880 as their team score.
Up next the Cougars host the Pinehurst Challenge on Pinehurst No. 6 March 19-20 in Pinehurst, N.C.

Xu Leads Women's Golf at St. James
SOUTHPORT, N.C. - Yue Xu shaved five strokes off of her second-round score to finish in sixth place with a 79-82-77=238 (+22) at Richmond's Spider at St. James over the weekend. Appalachian State University women's golf placed ninth with a 336-332-337=1005 (+141).
Rumbidzai Masamvu posted a solid showing with an 85-82-84=251 (+35) to tie for 28th place on the challenging 6,166-yard The Reserve. Junior Lauren Smith fired an 85-85-90=260 (+44) to finish 42nd.
Elena Thomas carded an 87-91-87=265 (+49) to tie in 51st place and Mimi Burke rounded out the Apps with a 98-83-89=270 (+54) in 55th place.
Boston College and Charleston Southern tied for the team win at 963 (+99), 14 strokes ahead of third-place UNC Pembroke.
BC's Katia Joo won the individual medal at 230 (+14).
Also competing from the Southern Conference, Wofford placed seventh at 995 (+131) and The Citadel finished 12th with a 1080 (+216).
The Apps continue south to Ocala, Fla. for Morehead State's Ocala Spring Invitational.
Catamount Women's Golf Finishes 13th at JMU-Eagle Landing Invitational
Maria Kjelldorff finishes tied for 15th to lead WCU overall
Orange Park, Fla. - Freshman Maria Kjelldorff posted her third-consecutive round of two-over, 74, to finish in a tie for 15th to lead the Catamounts as Western Carolina finished 13th overall at the JMU-Eagle Landing Invitational held at the par-72, 6,282-yard Eagle Landing Golf Club.
Starting on the back nine, Kjelldorff recorded two birdies to counter a double-bogey on the par-3 16th to make the turn at even par. Three bogies against one birdie on the front nine left her at two-over for the third-straight round.
The 74 score matches the career-best round for Kjelldorff during this her first collegiate season while her three-round total of 222 is a career-low.
Freshman Sofie Kvarnstrom, who had matched her classmate countryman Kjelldorff through the first two rounds, slipped into a tie for 44th in the final standings, struggling with five-over on the back nine to start and finishing with six-over on the front for an 83 on Sunday. She finished the tournament at 231 overall.
Senior Blaire Minter rallied on the final day, advancing 19 positions over the final 18 holes after shooting her tournament best of two-over, 74, on Sunday. After four bogies and one birdie on her back nine to start the day had her making the turn at three-over, the Marietta, Ga., native carded a pair of birdies on the par-4 first and fourth hole on the front to move one-over for her round. A bogey on her next-to-last hole left her at one-under for the side and two-over for the day. Minter shot 234 for the event.
Rounding out WCU's finishers were junior Michelle Bello in a tie for 77th overall with a three-day total of 240 and senior Rachel Nelson in a tie for 81st, shooting 241 for the tournament.
Playing unattached as an individual, senior Christiana Amoriello carded her tournament-low round on Sunday by shooting seven-over, 79, to finish 98th overall with a three-day score of 248 - her career-low, 54-hole score.
South Florida led all three rounds to claim team championship honors by three strokes over second-place Maryland, 883-to-886. East Carolina was third, seven strokes off the pace at 890, with Campbell (893) and Illinois (900) rounding out the top five.
Campbell's Kaylin Yost claimed individual medalist honors by a stroke over a three-way tie for second place. Yost carded a one-under 215, just ahead of Stetson's Alex Buelow, Shena Yang from South Florida and Juliet Vongphoumy of Maryland at 216.
Western Carolina returns to action next weekend at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, hosted by Augusta State at the Forest Hills Country Club in Augusta, Ga. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days with one round per day beginning on March 16. WCU finished seventh out of 17 teams at the same event last season.
