SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Demetrios Pagonis has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
This is the second time Pagonis’ has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week.
The junior from Westminister, Md., broke the Davidson indoor 3,000-meter record at the Kent Taylor Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina on Saturday.
Pagonis won the 3,000-meter run by over 11 seconds in a time of 8:19.80. His time was 19.80 seconds faster than the previous school record, which was set during the 2010 season.
The Wildcats will compete at the Fast Track Invitational hosted by Wake Forest over the weekend before heading to Birmingham for the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Championship.
Pagonis maintains a 3.86 GPA in chemistry.
