SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Alain Humblet has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches February 20-26.  Humblet went 5-1 last week, including a 3-0 mark in doubles play as Appalachian State went 2-1.  The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.

The Mountaineers began the week with a 5-2 win over Gardner-Webb before falling to East Tennessee State, 6-1.  ASU then closed the week with a 6-1 victory over Belmont.

Competing at No. 3 singles, Humblet went 2-1, earning a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Gardner-Webb's Adam Knutsson-Sunbland before dropping a 6-3, 2-6, 4-6 decision to ETSU's Juan Ramirez.  The Montreal, Canada, native then posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Belmont's Fernando Mussolini.

Paired with Alex Markov at No. 2 doubles, the ASU pair went 3-0.  Humblet and Markov raced past Gardner-Webb's Ernest Alberch and Matthew Parker, 8-3.  The Mountaineers' team then beat ETSU's Ramirez and Jeremy Bonnevalle 8-6 and knocked off Belmont's Mussolini and Rafael Matos by a similar score.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Davidson's Nicky Kunz, Furman's Andrew Mellow, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, Samford's Carson Kadi and Chattanooga's Chris Smith.
