Arrowood, Troelstrup Earn SoCon Baseball Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNCG senior Thomas Troelstrup has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Appalachian State senior Ryan Arrowood has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week for all games from February 20-26.

Troelstrup was a catalyst at the plate as the Spartans went 4-0 and moved their record to 7-0 on the season. Troelstrup hit .500 for the week as he batted 9-for-18 at the plate against UNC Asheville and Penn State. The third baseman from Tallahassee, Fla., had three doubles and a home run on the week and also added seven RBIs and five runs scored. He was 2-for-5 against UNC Asheville on Tuesday and 3-for-5 on both Friday and Saturday against Penn State.

Arrowood turned in a stellar performance as he pitched seven shutout innings to beat No. 7 LSU, 1-0, on Saturday. The senior right-hander retired 16 straight batters after facing a two-on, no-out jam in the first. He struck out five in a row twice during that stretch as the Rutherfordton, N.C., native retired 20 of the final 21 batters he faced and 20-of-23 overall. In total, Arrowood allowed just two hits and one walk and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts, as the Mountaineers became the first non-conference team to shutout the Tigers in nearly eight years.

Other hitters receiving consideration were Daniel Kassouf (Appalachian State), Marty Gantt (College of Charleston), Tyler Griffin (The Citadel), Michael Zeblo (Davidson), Eric Phillips (Georgia Southern), Brandon Miller (Samford), Jacob Hoyle (Western Carolina) and Konstantine Diamaduros (Wofford).

Other top performers among pitchers were Matt Pegler (College of Charleston), Logan Cribb (The Citadel), Brian Russell (Davidson), Jared Cheek (Georgia Southern), Max Povse (UNCG), Jordan Smith (Western Carolina) and Pete Noordsy (Wofford).
