CofC's Maddox Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston's Samantha Maddox has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 13-19.  Maddox clinched the final point in the match as College of Charleston topped Iowa State 4-3 on Friday.  The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.

With the match tied 3-3, Maddox earned a three-set victory over Meghan Cassens at No. 4 singles.  After splitting the first two sets, the freshman gave up just one game in the third set to come away with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win.  The Lexington, Ky., native is now 3-2 in singles play this year.

Maddox teamed with Irene Viana at No. 1 doubles and came away with an 8-2 win over Maria Macedo and Jenna Langhorst. 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, Davidson's Brites Moniz-Soares, Elon's Jordan Johnston, Georgia Southern's Alexis Prickett, and Western Carolina's Karen Jimenez.
