SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Brunson Miller and Samford’s Owen Wagoner have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Miller broke two school records over the weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational. On Friday, the junior shattered the 500-meter record that was set in 2004, with a time of 1:03.80. He was just shy of setting the facility record, which is 1:03.50.
The Murrells Inlet, S.C., native later broke his own 200-meter record with a time of 21.75. Miller was also part of The Citadel’s 4x400-meter relay team that finished second with at time of 3:20.48.
Wagoner moved into second all-time in Samford history following his personal best vault of 16’ 6.75”. The sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind., sits at second in the conference rankings, just behind teammate Michael Seaman.
Samford will compete at the 2012 Indoor Track and Field Championship in Birmingham Feb.23-24. The Citadel will compete one more time at the Gamecock Invitational this weekend in Columbia, S.C.
