SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Erin Barker and Samford’s Emily Allen have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Barker finished fourth at the Tiger Paw Invitational in the mile, breaking the Furman school record again, posting a time of 4:54.35. The senior is now ranked fourth in the conference in the event.
The Easley, S.C., native also finished second in the 3K run with a time of 9:56.82.
For the second time this season, Allen has picked up Field Athlete of the Week honors. The junior improved her school record in the weight throw with a mark of 51’ 11” at the Vulcan Invitational. The Brentwood, Tenn., native also recorded personal best leaps in the triple (11.49) and long jump (5.19).
The junior is now second in the triple jump and third weight throw in conference standings.
Furman and Samford will not compete again until the 2012 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in Birmingham on Feb. 23-24.
