SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Kalia’Shea Menendez has been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played February 7-13, the league office announced today.
The senior led the Catamounts to a 2-0 week, defeating Wofford and Furman on the road. In Western Carolina’s 58-54 win over Wofford, Menendez scored 15 points, 13 of them coming in the second half.
In Monday night’s 51-48 overtime victory at Furman, the 5-foot-8 guard led all players with 23 points. She scored all seven of the Catamounts’ points in overtime, hitting one field goal and going 5-of-6 from the line.
Menendez averaged 19 points last week and shot 46 percent from the field. She also finished 4-of-5 from long range and went 10-of-14 from the charity stripe.
The Raleigh, N.C., native moved into eighth place in the Western Carolina record books for free throws made in a career as she sits at 327.
Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Anna Freeman, Georgia Southern’s Meredyth Frye, and Chattanooga’s Taylor Hall.
