Samford's Dunkle Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Zac Dunkle has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches through February 12.  Dunkle is 4-1 in both singles and doubles competition this season as the Bulldogs are off to a 3-2 start.  The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.

Competing at No. 2 singles, Dunkle earned wins over Lipscomb's David Salazar (6-3, 7-5), USC Upstate's Matthias Kidler (6-4, 4-6, 6-1), Troy's Sami Ghorbel (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and UAB's David Zimmerman (7-6, 6-3).  His only blemish was a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Southern Miss's Paulo Alvardo. 

The Atlanta, Ga., native is paired with teammate Alexander Sajonz at No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs, and the pair is 4-1.  After starting the season 3-0 at the top spot, their only loss came against UAB where they dropped an 8-4 decision to Zimmerman and Tom Puetz.  Dunkle and Sajonz rebounded to come away with an 8-2 win over Southern Miss's Matt Frost and Inaki Belloso.

The Bulldogs return to the courts Wednesday when they visit Jacksonville State.

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Philip Kloc, The Citadel's David Orces, Davidson's Joe Schafer, Georgia Southern's Andrew Dromsky, UNCG's Ahmet Sarioglu, Chattanooga's Jackson Tresnan and Wofford's Rob Galloway.
