Sumner, Wade Named Women's Athletes of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga sophomore Amanda Sumner and Georgia Southern freshman Taylor Wade have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.

Sumner, a native of Bristol, Conn., posted a time of 9:51.41 in her first career 3K run. It was just her second track meet in two years. With her performance at the Rod McCravy Memorial, she moved into second place on the conference performance list.

Wade finished seventh (8.95) in the 60-meter hurdles at the Birmingham Invitational, which puts her in fourth in the league. The freshman finished 16th in the pentathlon with 2792 points, ranking her fifth in the conference.

Chattanooga will not be back in action until next week, while Georgia Southern will compete at the Virginia Tech Elite beginning on Friday.
