SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Nick Soto, a sophomore wrestler at Chattanooga, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for December 19, the league office announced today.
Soto went 3-0 in dual matches over the weekend. He opened the Princeton match with a 9-3 decision over Max Rogers, leading UTC to a 27-10 win. He put UTC up 6-0 against No. 2 Oklahoma State with a pin over Cowboy's starter Edward Klimara at the 6:29 mark. He then defeated Rutgers' Joe Landel 10-4 to open the final match with the Scarlet Knights. Soto is 13-3 overall and 6-2 in dual matches. He is ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation this week and has a 38-11 career record.
The Spring Hill, Fla., native holds a 3.68 GPA in Business.
Other nominees included College of Charleston men's basketball's Adjehi Baru, Davidson women's basketball's Lillian McCabe, and Elon women's basketball's Kelsey Evans.
