SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson senior Jake Cohen has been named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for all games played Dec. 11-17. Cohen paced Davidson in a 77-61 win over UNCW on Saturday night. The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.
The Berwyn, Pa., native connected on 5-of-8 field goal attempts, including 3-of-6 attempts from 3-point range. Sixteen of Cohen's season-high 21 points came in the second half. He grabbed four rebounds and recorded one assist, a blocked shot and a steal in 26 minutes of action against the Seahawks. Cohen finished the game a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Cohen ranks 17th in the league in scoring (12.3 ppg) and 15th in rebounding (5.6 rpg). He ranks second in the SoCon in blocked shots (1.4 bpg). He has made 79 percent of his free throws this season, which ranks eighth in the conference.
Davidson (6-4, 2-0 SoCon) returns to action Saturday night when the Wildcats visit Drexel.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel's Dylen Setzekorn, Elon's Jack Isenbarger, Georgia Southern's C.J. Reed, Samford's Clide Geffrard, Chattanooga's Z. Mason and Western Carolina's Tom Tankelwicz.
