NEW YORK – Elon's Chris Thomas and Furman's Coleton Henning are among the 54 NCAA
Division I college seniors invited to participate in the 2013 adidas MLS Player
Combine, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon by Major League Soccer.
Two MAC Hermann Trophy finalists, 15 All-Americans and eight
Men’s College Cup participants are among the players that will take the field
in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from Jan. 11-15.
All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2013 MLS
SuperDraft presented by adidas, which will take place on Jan. 17, in
Indianapolis, Ind., at 12 p.m. ET.
Henning, a native of Shawnee, Kan., and the 2011 SoCon
Player of the Year, was named to the All-SoCon First Team for the third time in
his Paladin career this past season after netting eight goals in 17
matches. The forward/midfielder, who
finished his five-year run at Furman with 24 goals and 12 assists, became the
first three-time first-team selection for Furman since Jon Leathers
accomplished the feat in 2007.
Thomas, the 2012 and 2010 SoCon Player of the Year, led the
nation with 23 goals and 51 total points this season. He earned All-American
status from the NSCAA and College Soccer News and was named to Top Drawer
Soccer’s Team of the Season. The forward from Snellville, Ga., set
single-season and career school records in points and goals on the year. He
finished his career sixth in SoCon history in career goals (53) and ninth in
total points (116).
A committee of NCAA Division I coaches from every
conference, as well as MLS representatives, selected the invitees, all of whom
completed their college eligibility this season. Generation adidas signings,
non-collegiate players, and additional college seniors will be announced in the
coming weeks.
