Bellissimo, Teter Named to Capital One Academic All-District Teams

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Two Southern Conference women's volleyball players were named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District first teams, the organization announced Thursday. Georgia Southern's Moriah Bellissimo and Chattanooga's Christina Teter were both honored and will be on the national ballot for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America honors.

Bellissimo, a senior outside hitter from Blackstone, Va.,  is averaging 2.81 kills and 3.06 digs per set and has started all 26 matches she has played in this season. She is also third on the team in blocks (47) and service aces (25).

The four-year letterwinner has played in 117 matches and collected 734 kills, 1,114 digs, 195 blocks, 182 assists and 79 aces. She is president of the Georgia Southern Student Athlete Advisory Board and carries a 4.0 grade point average in nutrition food science. The 2012 Georgia Southern female Scholar Athlete of the Year is also a two-time SoCon All-Academic selection and a three-time member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.

Chattanooga's Christina Teter earned a spot of the CoSIDA All-District First for the second consecutive season. The biology major carries a 4.00 GPA and has appeared in all 29 matches for Chattanooga this season.

The Signal Mountain, Tenn., native has played in 100 sets and leads the Mocs offense with 238 kills, averaging 2.38 kills per set. Teter also stands tall on defense, leading UTC with 75 blocks including a team-best 15 solo blocks.

In four years at Chattanooga, Teter has amassed 721 kills to put her within the top 20 all-time at UTC in career kills, and her 213 career blocks has her just 23 blocks out of the top 10 all-time at UTC. The senior ranks 10th all-time with 44 career blocks at Chattanooga.

Both players wrap-up regular season play this weekend and will look forward to the 2012 SoCon Championships, to be held in Davidson, N.C., November 17-19.
