Three SoCon Players Named Academic All-District

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Southern Conference women’s soccer players earned spots on the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District first teams, the organization announced Friday. College of Charleston’s Sarah Schaidle, Western Carolina’s Samantha Hodge and Wofford’s Maggie Bosley earned the distinction and will now be on the ballot for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America honors.

The Capital One Academic All-District team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). College of Charleston and Wofford are in the fourth district, which includes schools in Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Western Carolina is in the third district, which includes schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Nominees must have at least a 3.30 grade point average.

Shaidle, a senior midfielder for the Cougars, owns a 3.75 GPA in biochemistry. The Simpsonville, S.C., native has started every match for College of Charleston this season and has eight points on three goals and two assists. She earned a spot on the All-SoCon Second Team for her play.

Last season, Schaidle earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's College Scholar All-America Team.

Hodge, a redshirt senior for the Catamounts, has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team for the second straight year.

The forward from Louisville, Ky., has a 3.95 GPA in mathematics. Hodge is the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president as well as a Western Carolina Student Government Association (SGA) representative.

This season, Hodge played in all 19 games for Western Carolina and had three assists.

She is the only Western Carolina women's soccer player in the program's history to be a two-time First Team All-District III selection. In the past, the Catamounts had two players make second team all-district: Kyla Deon (2009) and Emily Pierce twice (2003 and 2005).

Bosley, a junior defender, from Aiken, S.C., started all 18 games for the Terriers and helped anchor a defense that earned five shutouts this season.  She was tied for the team lead in goals with three and finished fifth in points with six.

Academically, Bosley has excelled in the classroom, posting an overall grade point average of 3.88 while majoring in chemistry.  She is also a two-time member of the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
