SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Moriah Bellissimo, a senior outside hitter on the Georgia Southern volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for November 14, the league office announced today.
Also named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, Bellissimo hit .380 and averaged 3.82 kills and 3.00 digs per set in a 3-0 week for the Eagles that clinched the SoCon South Division regular-season title. The senior collected 42 kills, 33 digs, five blocks, and five service aces for the week. She posted 16 kills and 17 digs against Davidson, 11 kills and six digs against Furman and 15 kills and 10 digs against Wofford.
The Blackstone, Va., native has 10 double-doubles on the season, including two last week, and is averaging 2.87 kills and 3.01 digs per set. Bellissimo, who holds a 4.0 GPA in exercise science was recently named Capital One Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Other nominees included Elon women's basketball's Kelsey Evans, Chattanooga football's Davis Tull, and Western Carolina women's basketball's Diamond Hunnicutt.
