CofC?s Sean de Silva Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston midfielder Sean de Silva has been named the Southern Conference’s men’s soccer player of the week for all matches Oct. 15-21. The selection is made by the league office.

De Silva scored six points on two goals and two assists in helping the Cougars to a 2-0 week and the top of the SoCon standings.

Against league-leading Elon on Oct. 16, de Silva assisted on CofC’s first goal in the 3-2 win, which vaulted College of Charleston into a tie atop the standings with nine points.

The senior from Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, made sure the Cougars stayed on top in their next game, a 5-0 win over Davidson on Saturday. De Silva had two goals and an assist, scoring once in the first half and adding a goal and an assist in the second half as College of Charleston improved to 4-1-0 in SoCon play on the year.

The weekly award is the second of de Silva’s career, as he also took the award on Sept. 21, 2010.

College of Charleston (8-8-0, 4-1-0 SoCon) hosts Georgia Southern (4-10-1, 2-2-1 SoCon) in its penultimate league contest on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Patriots Point.

Also nominated: Hunter Norton (Georgia Southern), Austin Miller (UNCG) and Alex Hutchins (Wofford).
