Wofford builds on
lead at Bulldog Invitational
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C.
– The Wofford women’s golf team extended its lead to eight strokes over the
field after a 303 in windy conditions in round two of the of the 54-hole
Bulldog Invitational at the par-72, 6,000 yard Patriots Point Links on Monday.
Wofford shot an opening-round 285 to set a new school record
for an 18-hole low team score. After 36 holes of play, the Terriers have a 588,
which is the second-lowest team score after 36 holes of play.
Ann Marie Covar leads the Terriers and the tournament after
36 holes with a 71-73=144, while Lauren Dunbar follows with a 70-76=146 to sit
third overall. Maegan Higgins has a 73-75=148, and Alex Hendricks scored a
71-79=150. Emiley Pagrabs heads into the final day with a 78-80=158.
Competing as an individual, Elizabeth Thompson shot rounds
of 73 and 71 for a 144.
The Terriers will wrap up play with the final 18 holes
Tuesday at 8 a.m.
The Citadel in fifth
at Bulldog Invitational
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C.
– The Citadel’s women’s golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the
SCSU Bulldog Invitational, carding a 323 in Monday’s action at the par-72,
6,000-yard Patriots Point Links.
Coupled with Sunday’s 310 score, the Bulldogs sit eight
strokes back of tournament host South Carolina State with a two-day total of
633.
The final 18 holes will start at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Elon seventh at UNCG’s
Starmount Forest Tournament
GREENSBORO, N.C. – With
a five-player lineup consisting of just freshmen and sophomores, the Elon
women's golf team posted a two-round score of 606 (307-299) on the first day of
the UNCG Starmount Forest Tournament to sit seventh in a field of 16 teams.
Leading the way for the Maroon and Gold on the rainy Monday
was freshman Sunna Vidisdottir, who was 2-over par on both of her rounds. She
had two birdies on her way to a mark of 146 (73-73) and a tie for eighth
individually with a round left to play.
Sophomore Katie Partridge finished her first two rounds with
a score of 153 (79-74) and will begin Tuesday's final round in a tie for 32nd
among the 89 individuals in the field.
She is followed by a pair of freshmen who are tied for 41st
with a mark of 154 - Kathryn Buckingham (76-78) and Emily Brooks (80-74).
Rounding out the Elon contingent is sophomore Kristi Ingram,
who shot a 159 (79-80) to sit in a tie for 60th.
East Carolina's Frida Gustafsson Spang leads the individual
field with a two-round tally of 136 (66-70).
East Tennessee State (287-283=570) holds the team lead with
a round to play. The rest of the top five includes Maryland (287-291=578), No.
20 East Carolina (296-293=589), James Madison (300-292=592) and No. 17 Campbell
(305-293=598).
Between Elon and the top five sits Richmond. The Spiders
shot a 603 (301-302) on Monday.
Western Carolina sits
13th at UNCG Starmount Forest Tournament
GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Western Carolina struggled through rainy conditions during the first two rounds
of the UNCG Starmount Forest Tournament on Monday, shooting rounds of 310 and
320 to stand 13th out of 16 teams through 36 holes at the par-71, 6,265-yard
Starmount Forest Country Club.
WCU (630) enters Tuesday’s final round paired with golfers
from Jacksonville and host UNCG. The Catamounts are 13 strokes behind the
Dolphins in 12th and nine strokes ahead of the Spartans in 14th place. The
final 18 holes will get under way at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Freshman Taylor Allison carded the team’s best round on
Monday, doing so through the first 18 holes with a 1-under 71. Starting on the
par-4 13th, Allison was even-par with both a bogey and a birdie through her
first six holes before moving to 1-under with a birdie on the par-4 second
hole.
All told, Allison carded 14 pars through her opening 18
holes. Her opening-round 71 was one of just 13 rounds of even-par or better
turned in on the day.
The freshman from Elizabeth City, N.C., struggled in
Monday’s second round, posting eight bogeys and one double-bogey to finish at
10-over 81 for a 36-hole score of 152 – tied for 30th overall.
A second WCU freshman, Mariah Hopkins, posted rounds of 5-over
76 and 7-over 78 to shoot 154 on the opening day, tied for 41st overall.
Playing in her hometown of Greensboro, Hopkins carded three birdies over her
final five holes before entering the second round.
Rounding out WCU’s finishers through the first two rounds
were sophomore Maria Kjelldorff in a tie for 66th at 161; senior Michelle Bello
in 70th overall at 163; and sophomore Sofie Kvarnstrom in a tie for 71st after
consecutive rounds of 82 for a 164.
Playing as an individual, Catamount freshman Fatima
Gonzales-Carriles is in 88th overall with a two-round score of 184.
East Tennessee State posted rounds of 3-over 287 and 1-under
283 to lead the 16-team field with a 2-over par team score of 570. The
Buccaneers are eight strokes ahead of second-place Maryland at 578, with East
Carolina (589), James Madison (592) and Campbell (598) rounding out the top
five.
Fellow Southern Conference member Elon (606) is seventh with
UNCG is 14th overall.

second, four strokes in arrears at 2-under par. Just three players posted scores

UNCG in 14th
at own Starmount Forest Tournament
GREENSBORO, N.C. –
The UNCG women’s golf program held the first day of its annual fall tournament
on a rainy Monday as the 16 teams played 36 holes in the 2012 Starmount Forest
Tournament at the Starmount Forest Country Club. The tournament will conclude
Tuesday with an 18-hole third round set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
East Tennessee State leads the tournament after 36 holes,
firing a 2-over par 570 (287-283) to lead the team portion and hold an
eight-stroke edge over defending champion Maryland (287-291=578). The Spartans
sit in 14th place with a score of 639 (331-308) as they improved their round-two
score 23 strokes from the first round that was played a majority of time in the
rain.

one before posting a 70 in round two. Maryland’s Juliet Vongphoumy is second,
four shots back at 2-under par as just three players posted scores under the

UNCG was paced by senior Courtney Taylor, who sits in a tie
for 32nd place with a 153 (80-73). Sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir is tied for
49th with a score of 156 (81-75), while freshman Samantha Buchanan is in 69th
place with a score of 162 (83-79).
The Spartans are playing without sophomore Fanny Cnops, who
missed the tournament due to her play in the 2012 World Team Championships, in
which she placed 12th overall for Belgium.
