SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Meredith Paskert, Elon’s Celia Rose Eddy, and Chattanooga’s Julimar Alvarado have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for October 15.  The selections are made by the conference office. 

Paskert, a senior outside hitter, hit .362 and averaged 4.00 kills per set (44 total kills) in a 3-0 week for the Eagles. The Becksville, Ohio native, who transferred to Georgia Southern from Kent State as a junior, went over 500 kills in her GSU career after posting 12 against UNCG on Friday. She posted six service aces last week, including four in a 3-0 win at Davidson. She reached double-figure kills in all three matches last week, including 19 in the Eagles’ five-set win over Elon. She also added 13 digs and three blocks on the week.

Eddy, a senior middle blocker, recorded 15 blocks (11 assists and four solo) in two matches last week for the Phoenix. The Gulf Breeze, Fla., native averaged 1.67 blocks per set to help Elon out-block both opponents in their 1-1 week. In Elon’s first win at Davidson in five years, Eddy recorded a career-high nine blocks. She also tallied six blocks at Georgia Southern as the Phoenix out-blocked the Eagles, 13-5. She also tallied 12 kills on offense to average 1.33 kills per set.

Chattanooga’s Julimar Alvarado was named the SoCon Freshman of the week, her first honor of the season. The outside hitter from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., recorded 29 kills last week for the Mocs, an average of 3.62 kills per set (.267 attack percentage). Alvarado recorded a career-high 27 kills in Chattanooga’s five-set win over The Citadel. Her 27 kills are also a team-best on the season and the conference high for kills in a match. Alvarado is second on the team in kills this season (169) and leads the Mocs with 2.68 kills per set.

Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were Appalachian State’s Courtney Rhein, The Citadel’s Erin Bucherl, College of Charleston’s Emily Shelton, Davidson’s Molly Crenshaw, Elon’s Celia Rose Eddy, Furman’s Caroline Adams, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher, UNCG’s Kellie Orewiler, Samford’s Alexis Bauer, Western Carolina’s Caitlin Piechota, and Wofford’s Wendy Burnett.
