Raleigh, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team started out the day with a dual match win over Shippensburg, then fell to host North Carolina State and Bloomsburg in their next two bouts before wrapping up the day with a win over SIU-Edwardsville to finish the day at 2-2 overall at the Wolfpack Duals hosted by N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C.

Gardner-Webb got off to a great start, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers posted five wins, highlighted by pins at 165 and 197 pounds, to down Shippensburg, who was ranked as high as No. 20 overall among the NCAA Division II national polls, 29-17 in their first match of the day.
Redshirt-senior Michael Slaughter opened up the dual with a 13-4 major decision win over Colten Keck at 125 pounds.

After a forfeit victory for GWU's Jake Reinemund at 133 pounds and a major decision loss at 141 pounds put the score at 10-4 in favor of the Runnin' Bulldogs, freshman Davante Andujar posted a 13-1 major decision win over James Reilley at 149 pounds to push GWU in front by 10 at 14-4.

Redshirt-juniors Alex Medved and Justin Guthrie followed up with back-to-back wins at 157 and 165 pounds, as Medved downed Kenny Stank 11-6 at 157, while Guthrie recorded a fall at 5:00 over Neil Grundi at 165 pounds.

At 197 pounds, redshirt-junior Travis Porter pinned Keith Dahlheimer at 4:22, as GWU held on for the 29-17 dual match win.

In the second match of the day for GWU, the Runnin' Bulldogs got wins once more from Medved and Guthrie, yet it wasn't enough as Gardner-Webb fell to the host N.C. State, 32-12.

Down 17-0 to the Wolfpack after the first four matches, Medved earned a 7-3 decision over Colton Palmer at 157 pounds to put the Runnin' Bulldogs on the scoreboard.

Guthrie followed up with a 5-3 win over Steven Ramos at 165 pounds to put the score at 17-6 in favor of N.C. State.

The Wolfpack scored wins in each of the next three contests to push their lead to 32-6 with one match to go.

In the final match, GWU freshman Justin Kozera refused to quit, posting a pin over Josh Davis at 5:31 in the heavyweight match, putting the final score at 32-12 in favor of the Wolfpack.

Gardner-Webb's third match of the day was a rematch with Bloomsburg, who had defeated GWU at the UB Quad Meet back on December 18th.

Gardner-Webb took an early 3-0 lead with a win at 125 pounds, as Slaughter earned a 3-1 win decision over Sean Boylan, however, the Runnin' Bulldogs would not win another match in the dual, ultimately falling to Bloomsburg 39-3.

GWU's final match came against fellow associate Southern Conference member SIU-Edwardsville, as the Runnin ‘Bulldog wrestlers dropped the Cougars 32-13.

With the score in favor of GWU at 6-4, sophomore Alex Hamm defeated Logun Taylor 8-4 at 141 pounds to put GWU up 9-4 after three bouts.

RALEIGH, N.C. - SIUE Head Coach David Ray and his Cougars finished 1-3 Saturday at the Wolfpack Duals.

The Cougars defeated Anderson 26-16 to open the event but would drop its next three dual matches to Campbell (31-12), Shippensburg (24-22), and Gardner-Webb (32-13). Ray said he thought a healthy Cougars team may have been able to go 3- 1. Campbell and Gardner-Webb are members of the Southern Conference, which SIUE competes in next season.

"I guess I was spoiled the last three years because we didn't have injuries and as many guys out of the lineup as we have this season," said Ray.

The Cougars did have bright spots throughout the day. Patrick Myers, wrestling at 133 pounds, was 4-0 after winning over Campbell's Tanner Bidelspach and Gardner-Webb's Jake Reinemund. He also had his hand lifted for a pair of forfeits. Myers wrestled two exhibitions matches and won both.

Deshoun White was perfect on the mat with four victories. His biggest win came against Anderson's Will Sutton at 174 pounds. White dispatched Sutton 18-6. Ray said having family at the meeting pumped up White.

"He looked good. He was moving well and attacking. He scrambled well. When he got into a tough position, he was working hard to get into a better position,"
said Ray.

Josh Wood was the biggest scorer of the day at 197 pounds. He recorded pins over Anderson's Jordan Denmark and Campbell's John Merickel as well as a major decision over Shippensburg's Keith Dahlheimer.

SIUE, 2-9, next returns to the Vadalabene Center for a 7 p.m. dual match Thursday against Central Missouri.

No. 10 Pittsburgh 37, VMI 7
Princeton 26, VMI 10
Columbia 46, VMI 3
Eastern Michigan 25, VMI 10

PITTSBURGH - Senior 174 pound wrestler Matthew Brock went 4-0 on the day, winning all of his matches by decisions as the VMI Keydets traveled to the University of Pittsburgh to take part in the 2012 Pitt Duals, contested at Fitzgerald Field House.

Joining VMI were No. 10 and host Pittsburgh, Columbia, Eastern Michigan and Princeton. VMI fell to the host school 37-7, dropped a 26-10 decision against Princeton, fell 46-3 against Columbia and the Keydets were edged 25-10 against Eastern Michigan.

Joining Brock with multiple wins during the Duals were Andrew Embree, who went 2-2 as the Keydets heavyweight, and Conor Black, who likewise went 2-2 at 197 pounds.

Against the No. 10 Panthers, VMI picked up wins from Brock and Embree. The Keydets fell 37-7 to Pittsburgh, but forfeited three weight classes (125, 133, 197), giving up 18 team points in the process. In his fashion, Brock managed to grind out a 4-1 decision over P.J. Tasser while Embree snared four team points with his 8-0 major decision over Joel Yahner.

When the Keydets squared off with the Tigers of Princeton, VMI struggled in the lighter weight classes, but won three of the final four weight classes. Brock once again registered a 2-0 decision over Ryan Callahan, while Black continued the VMI run with a 6-2 victory over Dan Santaro. The Keydets' John Dommert fell by a narrow 5-4 decision against Kurt Brendel, but Embree managed another 8-0 major decision to conclude the dual.

Brock, who improved to 19-8 this season, surpassing his career-high mark of 18 victories set last season, recorded VMI's only points against Columbia. His 6-1 decision over Adam Fondale was a more decisive win against the Lion, who Brock met and beat 2-0 last weekend at the Mat Town USA Invitational.

The Keydets afternoon was rounded out with Eastern Michigan, the first time the programs have met in a dual match. Again a majority of VMI's team points came in the upper weight classes, but the Keydets picked up four points from Zeb Stewart at 141 points with his 9-0 blanking of Seth Schaner. VMI got another three points from Brock, who defeated Phillip Joseph 9-0 and another three team tallies from Black with a riveting 12-10 decision over Mike Curby.

Also at the Pitt Duals was Davidson, but the Keydets opted not to wrestle the Wildcats, who come to Lexington for VMI's next Southern Conference dual Thursday night. Action is set to begin in the Thunderdome at 7:30 p.m.

Pittsburgh went 4-0 at the Duals, while Columbia went 3-1, Princeton went 2-1, Eastern Michigan went 2-2 and Davidson went 0-3. Princeton and Columbia did not wrestle each other, as they are Ivy League opponents.
