SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State's Andre Williamson has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played December 20 through January 2 the league office announced Tuesday (Jan. 3). Williamson averaged 17.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games over the holidays as ASU split a pair of games against Campbell and Miami (Fla.).
The senior scored 16 points and pulled down five rebounds as ASU topped Campbell (77-74) on December 22. With the Mountaineers holding a one-point advantage, the Dayton, Ohio native hit two free throws with four seconds left to give ASU its three-point margin of victory. Williamson scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a loss at Miami on December 30. He connected on 13-of-18 (.722) field goals over the two games and was 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Williamson is tied for the league lead in blocked shots (1.8 bpg) and ranks fifth in rebounding (6.9 rpg).
The Mountaineers (5-7, 1-1 SoCon) visit Samford Thursday night.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included The Citadel's Mike Groselle, Georgia Southern's Willie Powers, UNCG's Trevis Simpson, Chattanooga's Ricky Taylor, Samford's Tyler Hood, Western Carolina's Harouna Mutombo and Wofford's Kevin Giltner.
