Women's Basketball Southern Conference

Murray Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson’s Laura Murray was named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for all games played December 20 through January 2.

Murray led Davidson to a 1-1 record over the holiday break, scoring a total of 41 points.

The sophomore guard recorded 19 points against Radford, in Davidson’s 81-68 victory, which marked the Wildcats’ fifth straight win at Radford. Murray added six rebounds and three assists in the game while going 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. She also hit three triples.

The Harrisburg, Pa., native went on to score a season-high 22 points at ACC rival Wake Forest, where she hit 8-of-14 shots from the field and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Murray’s 11 second-half points nearly erased the Wildcats 11-point deficit, bringing them within one point on two occasions, but Davidson’s rally fell short as the Wildcats fell 68-66.

Murray leads the Wildcats in three-pointers with 20 on the season and is second in scoring at 14.3 points per game. She also leads the team from the line, where she has only missed four shots in her 24 attempts.

Davidson will entertain Elon on Wednesday evening, before travelling to Furman for a Saturday afternoon tip-off.

Other top performers this week were Appalachian State’s Anna Freeman, College of Charleston’s Cathryn Hardy, Furman’s Brittany Hodges, Georgia Southern’s Meredyth Frye, UNCG’s Janae’ Stevenson, Samford’s Paige Anderson, Chattanooga’s Meghan Downes, Western Carolina’s Makensey Campbell and Wofford’s April Moorhouse.
