Sydnor Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Appalachian State freshman Maryah Sydnor has been named the Southern Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 18-23, the league office announced today.

Sydnor tied her career-high of 20 points in Monday's 53-49 win over the Samford Bulldogs. The Radford, Va. native, who finished a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, also had seven rebounds, three steals and two assists against the Bulldogs.

The freshman forward scored a team-leading 16 points on Saturday in ASU's 62-51 over Chattanooga. Sydnor dished out three assists and had four rebounds, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Sydnor and the rest of the Mountaineers team will travel to Furman for a Saturday afternoon game before returning home to entertain Western Carolina Monday night.

Other top performers this week were College of Charleston's Latisha Harris, Davidson's Laura Murray, Elon's Kelsey Evans, Furman's Raegan Thompson, UNCG's Breonna Patterson, Georgia Southern's Anna Claire Knight, Samford's Taylor Reece, Chattanooga's Whitney Hood, and Wofford's Morgan Wrightson.
