SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Whitney Hood has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 10-16, the league office announced today.
Hood recorded her fourth straight game as the Lady Mocs’ leading scorer as she reached the 20-point mark twice last week to help Chattanooga remain undefeated in league play.
Hood scored a season-high 24 points in a 74-67 win over Wofford on Friday while shooting 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. She also dished out four assists in that game.
The 6-foot-2 forward registered her second double-double (21 points and 11 rebounds) of the season in the Lady Mocs’ 71-53 win against Furman. She made 53 percent of her field goal attempts and added two steals and two blocks.
The Meridian, Miss., native leads the Southern Conference in field goal percentage (.528) and is ranked 35th in the NCAA in that category. She is shooting 81.1 percent from the free-throw line which puts her fifth in the league and in the top 100 in the NCAA rankings.
Hood is sixth in the league in scoring (13.6 ppg) and tenth in rebounding (6.5 rpg).
