SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State junior Nathan Healy has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
Healy matched a career-high with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and a single three-pointer in the Mountaineers’ 68-63 win at Samford last Thursday. The forward also went a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line, while adding a team-best eight rebounds, three blocks and a pair of assists.
On Saturday at Chattanooga, the junior came off the bench for 12 minutes and pulled in three rebounds.
Appalachian State finished 1-1 last week in a pair of road games, where Healy averaged 7.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The New Bern, N.C., native maintains a 3.98 GPA in Management. During the fall semester, Healy posted a 4.0 GPA and was named to the ASU Chancellor’s list.
Other nominees included UNCG women’s basketball player Natalie Headley, Georgia Southern women’s basketball player Meredyth Frye, Samford women’s basketball player Paige Anderson, Chattanooga women’s basketball player Taylor Hall and Western Carolina women’s basketball player Kalia’Shea Menendez.
