SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Courtney Freeman has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 3-9.
Freeman helped lead the Mountaineers to a pair of road wins last week, as ASU remained perfect in conference play. In the ASU’s 72-58 win at Elon, Freeman scored 16 points and added seven rebounds, while shooting 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The junior guard recorded a new career-high with 23 points in Monday’s 81-66 win over UNCG, shooting 76.9 percent from the field. Freeman tallied five rebounds and went a perfect 3-for-3 from the line.
The Carlton, Ga., native is second in scoring for the Mountaineers averaging 14 points per game, which puts her sixth in the league. She leads the Apps at the charity stripe averaging 3.7 free-throws per game.
Other top performers this week were College of Charleston’s Latisha Harris, Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, UNCG’s Natalie Headley, Georgia Southern’s Meredyth Frye, Samford’s Paige Anderson, Chattanooga’s Whitney Hood and Wofford’s Rachel Brittenham.
