The Southern Conference Remembers 9/11

Spartanburg, S.C. - With the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks approaching, three members of the Southern Conference staff agreed to recall their individual experiences from that day in history.

Commissioner John Iamarino, who was the Commissioner at the Northeast Conference in September, 2001, reflects on the proximity of the NEC offices to downtown Manhattan and how the tragedy would affect their member institutions specifically and as a whole.

Senior Associate Commissioner Geoff Cabe and Associate Commissioner Sue Arakas are the only current Southern Conference employees who were with the conference in 2001.  Their tales intertwine to describe how the national tragedy affected the Southern Conference and what changes were made to protect the SoCon family.
