SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Citadel sophomore forward Vanessa Aponte has been chosen as the Southern Conference women's soccer player of the week for all matches from August 29 - September 4.
Aponte tallied three goals and two assists over the weekend as The Citadel split a pair of non-conference contests against USC Upstate and Navy.
The Orlando, Fla., native scored twice while assisting on two more goals in the Bulldogs' 5-0 shutout of USC Upstate on Friday.
Aponte followed that with another goal Sunday as The Citadel fell to Navy, 2-1, in double overtime.
In total, the sophomore placed nine shots on goal in the two matches.
