SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson's Caroline Brown, College of Charleston's Emily Shelton and Western Carolina's Caitlin Piechota have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week respectively, for September 6. The selections are made by the conference office.
Brown, an outside hitter, helped the Wildcats finish the second week of action 3-1, Davidson is now 5-2 on the season. Brown set a career-high with 19 kills in Davidson's midweek game against North Carolina Central and matched it against Gardner-Webb.
The El Paso, Texas, native had career-high 15 digs against South Carolina and three blocks against UNC Asheville. She also notched two double-doubles during the second week of action. For the second straight week, the sophomore was named to the All-Tournament team
Shelton, a junior libero led the College of Charleston in digs in every match over the weekend, including a match-high 29 digs against Georgia State.
The Cincinnati native finished the week with 69 digs, averaging 5.75 per set. After starting the season
0-3, the Cougars won the 2011 Georgia State Invitational evening their record to 3-3.
Piechota made her collegiate debut this weekend in the Midtown Courtyard Classic. The outside hitter led the Catamounts with 40 kills and recorded at least 10 kills in three of the four matches. Western Carolina finished the weekend 2-2. The Catamounts are now 2-5 on the season.
In addition to a solid debut with the Catamounts, the Batavia, Ill., native was named to the All-Tournament Team. She was only one of two freshmen on that team.

Nominated for Freshman of the Week were Lauren Gray (Appalachian State), Ise d'Angelo (The Citadel), Sloane White (College of Charleston), Jamie DeRatt (Georgia Southern), Michaela Reesor (Samford), Melissa Green (Chattanooga), Taylor Baird (Wofford).
