SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played Thursday, September 1 and Saturday, September 3. Furman's Jerodis Williams was named Offensive Player of the Week while Wofford's Alvin Scioneaux earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Georgia Southern's Deion Stanley was selected as the Freshman of the Week, and Appalachian State's Sam Martin was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jerodis Williams, Furman, Jr., RB, Pratville, Ala.
Williams turned in a career performance as the Paladins fell at Coastal Carolina (30-23) Saturday night. The junior rushed for a career-high 142 yards on just 15 carries and scored all three of the Paladins' touchdowns. His 68-yard score late in the third quarter pulled Furman even with CCU, 23-23. In addition to averaging 9.5 yards per carry, Williams added two receptions for 14 yards.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alvin Scioneaux, Wofford, So., LB, Garyville, La.
Scioneaux was a disruptive force for the Wofford defense as the Terriers pulled out a 35-28 victory at Presbyterian Saturday afternoon. Scioneaux recorded a career-high 10 tackles. The sophomore linebacker was credited with three tackles for loss (minus 15 yards), two sacks (minus 13 yards) and two forced fumbles in the win.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Deion Stanley, Georgia Southern, Fr., LB, Dry Pond, Ga.
Stanley was moved from safety to linebacker prior to GSU's first game against Samford and finished tied for the team high with 10 tackles as the Eagles held off the Bulldogs, 31-17, in conference play. The Dry Pond, Ga., native also registered a team-high eight solo stops in the win.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sam Martin, Appalachian State, Jr., P, Fayetteville, Ga.
Martin matched a career high with a 45.0 average on eight punts (360 yards) as the Mountaineers fell at Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon. Martin booted two punts over 50 yards, including a long of 59, and placed two punts inside the Hokies' five-yard line.
