SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Furman's Jessica Smith has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 28, the league office announced today.
Smith led the Paladins to conference victories over Davidson and Georgia Southern over the weekend, improving Furman's record to 7-4-0 (2-0). The goalkeeper stopped two shots en route to a shut-out on Friday against Davidson. On Sunday she saved five shots, only allowing one goal against the Eagles.
The senior from Franklin, Tenn. maintains a 3.96 GPA in Chemistry.
Other nominees included College of Charleston runner Dean O'Brien, The Citadel runner Austin Waldrop, Davidson soccer player Greg Macnamara, UNCG soccer player Peyton Ford Jr., Chattanooga football player Mike Hammons, Western Carolina soccer player Samantha Hodge, and Wofford football player Mitch Allen.
