GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG came out and easily took the first set 25-13 en route to defeating North Carolina A&T, 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13), on Wednesday evening in the Corbett Sports Center.

The Spartans improved to 7-8 on the season, while the Aggies fell to 0-15.

Karrian Chambers led UNCG on Wednesday with nine kills and Holland Hoefnagel added seven kills of her own. Kellie Orewiler also had 13 digs in the winning effort.

Jenea Daniels paced the Aggies with six kills and two others had four kills each.

UNCG took control early in the first set as it jumped out to a 9-4 lead and forced an Aggie timeout. The Spartans would stretch their lead out to 20-9 late in the set on a kill by Ariel Newman before winning the set, 25-13.

The second set was much closer as there were six ties, particularly late in the set. After UNCG had built an 18-13 lead, North Carolina A&T fought back with five points of its own to tie the set at 18. The Spartans were able to recover and score seven of the final nine points to win the set, 25-20.

The third and final set was similar to the first set as UNCG ran out to a 14-4 lead before a kill by Chambers gave the Spartans the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

Western Carolina 0, Gardner-Webb 3

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-The Western Carolina volleyball team (5-10) fell 3-0 (21-25, 19-25, 24-26) to Gardner-Webb (4-9) Wednesday evening at Paul Porter Arena on the Boiling Springs campus. The loss for the Catamounts comes less than a week after WCU defeated the Bulldogs, 3-2, in the Spartan Classic.

Fresh off of being named the SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, freshman outside hitter Caitlin Piechota continued her successful freshman campaign recording her fourth double-double on the season, tying a match-high 13 kills to go along with her team-leading 18 digs.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by Laura Wilcox and Tyler Cockrell, who connected on 12 and 13 kills, respectively. Gardner-Webb outhit the Catamounts .156 to .071 throughout the match.

The match stayed close throughout as both teams exchanged leads seven times with 17 tie scores.

Jordan Timmermann, last week's SoCon Freshman Player of the Week, made a career-high four total blocks while adding six kills. Carrie Minogue added seven kills from the middle blocker position. 

The Catamounts will open up conference play at home this weekend as Western Carolina welcomes the Lady Mocs of Chattanooga and the Samford Bulldogs to the Ramsey Center, with the Chattanooga match set to being at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The Catamounts will play Samford Sunday at the same time.
