SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston sophomore forward Andy Craven and UNCG junior striker Hakan Ilhan have been chosen as the Southern Conference men's soccer co-players of the week for all matches from August 26-28.
Craven and Ilhan each scored twice while leading their respective squads to identical 3-2 victories over nationally-ranked opponents to start the 2011 season.
Craven, the 2010 SoCon Freshman of the Year, scored the first two goals in College of Charleston's victory over No. 15 South Carolina on Sunday evening, in a match that was postponed two days due to Hurricane Irene.
Ilhan, the SoCon's top goal-scorer last season, picked up right where he left off by converting a penalty kick in the first half Friday against 12th-ranked Duke. He added his second tally of the night and fifth-career game-winning goal to give UNCG 3-0 lead as the Spartans held on for the 3-2 triumph.
Other Nominees: Luigi Clendining (Georgia Southern), Witt Carlisle (Georgia Southern) and Collin Taylor (Appalachian State).
