SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Southern Conference announced today (August 24) that WABM-TV in Birmingham, Ala., has agreed to broadcast the league's eight-game football television package this fall.  An affiliate of MyNetworkTV, WABM covers approximately 750,000 households in Birmingham, Anniston, Gadsden and Tuscaloosa.

"We're very pleased that WABM-TV will be carrying our package of SoCon games this season," said Southern Conference Commissioner John Iamarino.  "This agreement ensures that football fans throughout central Alabama will be able to watch Southern Conference football every Saturday afternoon beginning October 1."

WABM-TV joins public television systems in Georgia (Georgia Public Broadcasting), North Carolina (UNC-TV) and South Carolina (SCE TV) which previously agreed to televise the league's football package.  The distribution platform will reach over 12 million homes through 33 affiliates, making it the largest regional distribution option across both broadcast and cable. 

The league's 2011 broadcast package begins October 1 when last year's co-champions, Appalachian State and Wofford square off in Spartanburg, S.C.  Each of the eight televised games will also be streamed live through the conference web site, on ESPN3.com, and on the individual public television web sites.
