SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Davidson freshman forward Julia Singley has been chosen as the Southern Conference women's soccer player of the week for all matches from August 19-22.

In her collegiate debut, Singley knocked in the go-ahead goal and scored two of the Wildcats' eight goals in leading Davidson to an 8-1 season-opening triumph over UNC Asheville at Alumni Stadium.

The Morganton, N.C., native scored in the first half off a feed from Rachael Newmister in the box, where she then chipped the ball past the diving UNCA keeper to give Davidson an 2-0 lead.

The freshman's second goal, in the second half, started a rally of six straight Wildcat goals for the final score of 8-1. Singley put six of eight shots on goal and was one of four freshmen on the evening to find the back of the net.
