MIRABEL, Quebec -- Former Elon University women's golfer Danielle Mills '09 has qualified for her first LPGA event, the 2011 CN Canadian Women's Open which begins on August 25 at the Hillsdale Golf and Country Club.
Mills, a native of Point-Claire, Quebec, is one of 17 Canadians in the field. Mills secured her spot in the tournament thanks to an exemption that was based on the LPGA Future Tour's season-long Order of Merit, which afforded exemptions to the top-three point-getters, not otherwise exempt into the event. She gained full status on the LPGA Futures Tour in 2010 and will attend LPGA qualifying school this fall.
While at Elon, Mills earned the 2009 Stein H. Basnight Award which is presented annually to the school's top male and female athletes. In both 2008 and 2009 she finished second individually in the Southern Conference Championship. Mills won three individual tournament titles as a member of the Phoenix program.
Ninety-seven of the current top-100 on the LPGA Official Money List will be competing in the CN Canadian Women's Open. The field also includes nine former Canadian LPGA event winners, including 2010 CN Canadian Women's Open champ Michelle Wie. LPGA Tour stars Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato, Morgan Pressel, Christina Kim, Natalie Gulbis, Britanny Lincicome, Stacy Lewis, Se Ri Pak and Karrie Webb will also compete.
The tournament will be broadcast in the United States on the Golf Channel.
