DAVIDSON, N.C. - In her collegiate debut, freshman Julia Singley (Morganton, N.C.) knocked in two of the Wildcats' six second-half goals on her way to a hat trick, and Davidson rolled to a season-opening 8-1 win over UNC Asheville in women's soccer action on Saturday night in front of a crowd of 1,072 at Alumni Stadium.
The win continued Davidson's school-best home unbeaten streak, which is now at 12 (9-0-3) dating back to the last three home contests of the 2009 campaign.
Singley, who netted her first career goal at the 34:52 mark in the first half, wasn't the only first-year player to find the back of the net. Fellow classmates Becca Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Rachel Stelter (The Woodlands, Texas) each scored single goals, with Fisher starting the scoring off for Davidson with a strike in the 15th minute of the first half.
Davidson remains at home as it continues its season opening five-game homestand with a pair of contests next weekend. The ‘Cats will face Providence on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. and then finish out the weekend with a 1 p.m. contest against Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.
