Eagles earn honors for the second-straight year
NORMAN, Okla. - Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars have been announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Logan Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) and Matt Deal (Statesboro, Ga.) represented Georgia Southern on the 2011 edition of the list, two of the 138 total Division I players to earn the honor. Blondell and Deal, both named All-America Scholars in 2010, helped lead the Eagles to their third-straight NCAA Regional appearance.

A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

A total of 138 players in Division I earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3. NORMAN, OKLA. -- Wofford men's golfer, Brent Whitehead, earned Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America Wednesday afternoon for his performance during the 2010-2011 season.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. Whitehead was one of 138 golfers from the NCAA Division I on the list. He led the Terriers with a 73.48 stroke average during the season.
Jaeger Earns Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar
Jaeger, a Health & Human Performance major, is one of 138 DI men's golfers honored
NORMAN, Okla. --- Chattanooga Mocs rising senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) is no stranger to honors. He is the two-time reigning Southern Conference Golfer of the Year, and he earned PING All-East Region and All-SoCon all three years of competition at Chattanooga. But this season, Jaeger found a new one to frame.
Jaeger, one of the top amateurs in Germany, was named to the 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar team. He is one of 210 men's collegiate golfers to receive the award, 138 in NCAA Division I.
It requires a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on the academic side. The honor also contains an athletic component as awardees must complete two years of competition, participate in 70 percent of his team's rounds in the season in question and maintain a stroke average of 76.0 or better.
Jaeger easily meets all three components. He has missed just one tournament in his three seasons and his 2010-11 stroke average was 71.67 as he shot one-under par through 10 tournaments. His 3.575 GPA exhibits his all-around performance as a student-athlete.
"Stephan is the true definition of student-athlete," said head coach Mark Guhne. "He has tremendous work ethic and is very balanced academically, athletically and socially. His tournament preparation is as good as anyone I've ever been around. It is no surprise that he applies himself for excellence in life as well."
This makes three straight All-America Scholars for the Mocs. Derek Rende (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), now on the NGA Hooters Tour, made the squad in 2009 and 2010.
